Fran Brodin, 2009 Woman of the Year
Fran Brodin was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado. She has many fond summertime memories of growing up within her Minnequa Club “family”, where she enjoyed water skiing and participating on the swim team. She continued to be surrounded by friends and family in the wintertime where they enjoyed down hill and cross country skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado. She feels extremely lucky to have grown up within a fun, loving family that taught her about balancing work and play as well as the importance of reaching out to others.
Fran graduated from Central High School in 1982. She was the editor of the high school annual for 2 years, Junior Class President, manager of the boys swim team and graduated with a silver cord. Her greatest high school memories come from the camaraderie of her girls swim team “family”. She appreciates the early wisdom she gained about the value of being a team player.
Her senior year, she had the opportunity to learn about biofeedback and stress management. She followed this path and became certified in biofeedback in 1987 at Aims Community College in Greeley Colorado. She went on to get her Bachelors at Metropolitan State College in Denver and is currently working on her Masters through Adams State College’s Pueblo cohort program. She has had her practice in biofeedback, Healthy Solutions Biofeedback Therapy, since 1989 and her office is currently located at the Dorcy Cancer Center at St. Mary Corwin where she can reminisce about the “good ole’ days” of fun and friendship when she gets a frequent glimpse of Lake Minnequa, across the street from the hospital.
She is also the Healing Arts Coordinator for the Healing Arts Program that is funded by the hospital and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. She and the healing arts “family” are committed to bridging the gap between traditional medicine and holistic health in our community.
Fran’s greatest joy comes from being with her beautiful and talented daughter, Chelsea. She is 14 years old and a freshman at East High School where she brings a smile to everyone’s face by her quick wit and warm personality.
Fran would like to thank everyone within the BWN “family” for being instrumental in giving her the tools to find the, inner strength to become the strong, spirited woman she was meant to be.
